The Municipality measures the sludge and scum levels in septic tanks to ensure efficient management of pump-outs. This method allows the frequency of pump-outs to be adjusted according to actual needs, in compliance with provincial regulations.
Measuring is carried out every two years, from May to October. Even-numbered civic addresses are measured in even-numbered years, and odd-numbered civic addresses are measured in odd-numbered years.
The 2026 schedule is provided for informational purposes only. The targeted sectors will be announced gradually in our newsletter and on our Facebook page.
How do I prepare for the operator's arrival?
In a nutshell, here's how a septic system works:
To find out more, consult our complete guide.
By-law 2022-410 on the management of septic systems requires homeowners to maintain functional, non-polluting septic systems to protect the environment and public health.
Every five (5) years, the municipality will verify the location of the purifying element and the proper operation of the septic system serving the residence. This work will be carried out by a designated firm. Notice will be sent to those concerned prior to the required inspection.
The use of a firm designated by the municipality makes it possible to obtain a better price and consistency of analysis.
Priority is given to septic systems located near bodies of water.
Proof of work planning must be provided to the Municipality within 120 days of the analysis results.
A certificate of authorization from the Municipality is required for any work on a septic system. Please note that a percolation test by a technologist is required for the permit application.
Applying for a permit
For those subject to this by-law who wish to voluntarily replace their septic system, financial assistance is available.
The Municipality will send out a contractor in the weeks following the measurement. The list of septic tanks to be emptied is sent every week. Keep your lids accessible.
Please note that emptying can take up to a few months, as this is the busiest time of the year for these contractors. Don't worry, your tank won't overflow!
Once the tank has been emptied, you will receive an invoice from the municipality for the amount associated with the capacity of the septic system, as indicated below* :

If the water level is lower than the outlet pipe, this is normal. However, if the water level is higher than the inlet and outlet pipes, we recommend checking and cleaning the prefilter.
If your system is not equipped with a prefilter, it's best to contact a specialist company.
We recommend cleaning your septic system's prefilter every six months, in Spring and fall.
Important: wear long clothing, gloves and goggles. Once the prefilter has been cleaned, wash your hands and change your clothes as soon as possible.
