Page 1 1« Cottage » Hotel (photo circa 1930) This hotel, located at the intersection of Route 245 and Baker Pond Road, near the “Brick Store”, was the second Bolton Centre hotel, built around 1910. It was owned by James Munroe Peasley and his wife Emily Randall. It was initially a boarding house and restaurant, and then became a Bar Hotel, known as the “Bolton Centre Hotel”, owned by Donat Beaulieu from 1951 to 1974, when it burned. The use of sardine cans as ashtrays is proof of the frequent fighting that broke out.
The “Brick Store”, built in 1865 by John Blaisdell from Vermont, USA, was located on the west side of Route 245, north of Baker Pond Road. The building had 3 floors: the general store on the first floor, the owners’ residence on the second, a dance hall and Masonic Hall on the third. Lindsay and William Fisk were the owners and shopkeepers until 1940. It was then owned by Mr. Ashby. When closed down, the new owner had a sewing factory on the first floor. The building burned down in 1956.
