Our Council Meetings and Commitees

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE OCTOBER 1ST, 2009 COUNCIL MEETING

The Mayor, 5 Councillors and 2 citizens were present.

Heritage and Culture
Village Fest was held on September 13th at the municipal park on Terrio Road. Over one hundred people attended. Mrs. Ginette Breton gave a report on upcoming activities.

Infrastructure
The committee met on September 23rd. Work and projects in progress were discussed, and the committee also recommends that, rather than changing its name, Public Road be made safer for emergency vehicles by using a system of civic number signs.

Public Security
The Municipality of Austin’s fire chief has submitted his inspection report of all the public and private roads in the municipality of East Bolton. Letters indicating access problems found by fire services will be sent to the owners of private roads.

Environment
The committee met on September 14th. It was a meeting for the new members to familiarize themselves with the main concerns of the committee.

PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS
The municipality adopted a sustainable development policy; its main methods are:

  • Ensure that the municipal administration, businesses, community groups and individuals of the Municipality of East Bolton know, understand, accept and apply the precepts of sustainable development, and integrate them into their daily activities.

  • Propose and support projects and initiatives which improve citizens’ quality of life, while ensuring the perpetuity of our resources.

  • Adopt Eco-responsible behaviours.

In consequence, the Municipality commits itself to pursuing the objectives of sustainable development, which includes environmental protection, economic development and social development, and integrating these principles into its strategic development plan.

The 2008-2009 comparative report on the budget to September 30th was deposed and accepted. The budget has been respected, and the municipality has accumulated a surplus.

QUESTION PERIOD
One citizen requested clarifications regarding the decision to keep the name of Public Road the same.

The same citizen mentioned an obstruction at the intersection of Route Missisquoi and chemin du Lac-Nick, as well as some gaps in the road maintenance. The citizen was told that it is better to let the Town Hall know of these problems right away, to avoid delays in dealing with the problem. Appropriate measures will be taken.

One citizen asked about the corrections which need to be made to the private roads as pointed out by the Fire Chief. It is the road owner’s responsibility to make the necessary corrections.

The same citizen asked some questions about the winter road maintenance contract and municipal election procedures.

NEXT MEETING:

  • MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH, 2009 AT 7:00 PM AT THE TOWN HALL
