HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MAY 4TH, 2009 COUNCIL MEETING Environment Infrastructure PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS The council set aside an amount of $5 000 to hire a worker for the summer period. MAYOR’S REPORT The Mayor met with representatives from Lapalme’s gravel pit to discuss upcoming work. The entrance to the pit on Route 245 is complete, but more blasting will be done at the beginning of June. Trucks will now enter the site via the 245, and exit on Baker Pond Road. The contractor will maintain the current buffer between the surrounding properties and his property line. The Mayor apologized on behalf of herself, the council and the municipality for the state of certain municipal roads. Some of these roads were particularly damaged by the thaw, and should have been more diligently maintained. The provincial government would like to inform all citizens that work related wells and septic installations are now admissible for a tax credit when the work is being carried out at a principal residence. QUESTION PERIOD The Director General will meet with the webmaster this week to review the content of the municipality’s website following the communication from the OLF. The new C.C.E. will be composed of people who are able to vote in municipal elections. One citizen asked for a description of the summer job, and also about the candidate selection process. She also asked about the costs of the lawyers’ fees for an on-going lawsuit from several years ago. The property owner in question was using his property as a dump site for trash and construction materials, which is prohibited by the nuisance bylaw. The Mayor pointed out that the municipality has the responsibility to protect citizens from abuse by a neighbour. A group of citizens from Bellevue Road complained about the state of the road. The Mayor responded that several measures are in the works to correct the problems. One citizen asked if there is a way to have his tax bill reduced by reducing his evaluation. The Mayor responded that the law is very strict in that regard and that there is no room for manoeuvring. In the high-speed internet dossier, the Mayor stated that the MRC must carry out a feasibility study before making any request for funding to the provincial government. The study is in progress. One citizen wanted to know of any developments regarding the Eastman Eco Centre. The Mayor responded that the work has been suspended, because the council and citizens of Eastman are divided on the issue, and the partner municipalities have new demands.
