HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MAY 5, 2008 COUNCIL MEETING The Mayor, 5 councillors and 7 citizens were present. PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS The Municipality considers water quality to be a top priority, and encourages all citizens to participate in promoting healthy lakes and rivers. To this end, the Municipality will assume the costs of laboratory analyses and reports of the water quality in the Lake Nick basin. The Municipality wishes to adopt a policy of sustainable development, which responds to the needs of today without compromising the capacity of future generations to meet theirs. This policy is a multi dimensional commitment which includes the three components of sustainable development: economic development, social development, and environmental protection. The Association for the Protection of Estrie Lakes and Waterways and the St. François River (RAPPEL) proposes a program whose aim is to provide the Long Pond Association with the necessary tools to protect its lake and tributaries. To benefit from this program, the Association must have the support of the Municipality, namely in economic terms. Consequently, the Municipality supports the Long Pond Association’s request to participate in RAPPEL’s programs. In the same vein, following their report on the water level of Long Pond, the Municipality has mandated the firm Aqua-Berge to submit a request to the Ministry to authorize the installation of a structure to control the water level in Long Pond. In order to maximize the distribution of information throughout municipal territory, bulletin boards will be installed at the intersection of Bellevue Road and 11th Range, in Lake Nick and at the dépanneur in South Bolton. MAYOR’S REPORT In order to improve response time of emergency crews such as first responders, police, ambulance, and fire trucks, the Municipality is adopting a policy which aims to standardize civic numbers identifying homes on municipal territory. QUESTION PERIOD Someone asked what steps the Municipality will take regarding the beavers along the river. The Municipality will intervene only when public safety is threatened, particularly when roadways are in danger. One citizen reported that a portion of Bellevue Road is in very bad condition. He has been invited to communicate with the municipal offices regarding what measures will be taken to remedy the situation. A citizen was concerned about dangerous chemicals being left in the paint recuperation bins outside the Town Hall. The Mayor responded that following a requirement of the insurance company, the Municipality will immediately end its paint recuperation service, and asks citizens to use the Eco-Centre in Potton, with whom we have an inter municipal agreement.
