HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MARCH 4TH 2008 COUNCIL MEETING
The Pro-mayor, 4 councillors and 3 citizens were present.
COMMITTEES
ENVIRONMENT
An “Environment” tab has been added to the municipality’s web site. Information on all waste removal services in the region, our garbage and recycling calendar, and other information on waste management can be found there. Information concerning Hydro Québec’s new fridge recuperation project is also available.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The Minister of Transportation has advised us that work on the East River Road Bridge should take place in 2008 but could be delayed depending on the availability of contractors and the saturation of the market. The work is expected to take six weeks to complete, and traffic will be diverted during this period.
RECREATION
Within the framework of the Missisquoi Valley Eco-development project, councillors R. Gagné and C. Laurin, as well as the municipal inspector, accompanied J.M. Croteau, DG of «Sentiers de l’Estrie» to trace a new trail leading from the municipal park and connecting with the main trails. The necessary steps are being taken at the administrative level to complete the project.
URBANISM
In his February 29th, 2008 report, the building inspector outlined the steps taken during meetings with local businesses concerning the signage bylaw. He writes : “The business owners were receptive and informed on the signage bylaw. One sign not in conformity with the bylaw on the corner of Route 245 and chemin du lac Nick advertising a business was taken down.”
PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS
Within the framework of the fire coverage plan, the Town of Magog sent a proposal to 9 municipalities concerning backup, which would involve a division of costs among the municipalities. Since the proposal involves large sums of money which will have a significant impact on taxpayers, it was resolved that representatives of the towns concerned meet to begin negotiations. Under the same heading, it was also resolved that the municipality request some leniencies to the requirements of response time and resources in fire prevention from the minister of public security.
QUESTION PERIOD
One citizen requested that the signage on Bellevue road be revised. The members of the infrastructure committee, along with the municipal inspector and the concerned citizen, will travel the length of the road within the next few days to verify the state of the situation.
A request was made by a citizen to have a copy of the detailed report of the building inspector’s initial steps with local entrepreneurs regarding the signage bylaw. The council took note of his request.
Regarding the high speed internet project, a citizen wanted to know the municipality’s position on the subject following the February 26th meeting. The Director General informed him that council has not come to a decision so far. She also made it clear that the Municipality is acting as a client only, to be included with the 49 other property owners in Bolton Centre. The citizen volunteered to contact neighbours regarding this project, notably about the costs, and the advantages expounded by the representative of the cable company.
| The next sitting of council will be at the Townhall in Bolton Centre on Monday April 7th, 2008 starting at 7PM. |
