HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MARCH 5TH 2007 COUNCIL MEETING The Mayor, 4 councillors and 7 citizens were present
COMMITTEES CULTURE AND RECREATION A committee meeting was held on February 20th 2007. The choir resumed its activities in January. In an effort to boost membership, Mrs. José Ledoux, person responsible for communications, is recruiting in neighbouring municipalities as well as our own. ENVIRONMENT On February 22nd, 4 members of council including the Mayor, attended information sessions on various aspects of municipal management. One of the sessions addressed government intervention in matters of shoreline protection within existing laws and bylaws. A request for amendment of Zoning Bylaw #153 in order to allow for the opening of a gravel pit in South Bolton, was refused by Council. The Council concluded that this type of project does not harmonize with the objectives of the Memphrémagog MRC’s regional orientations which aim to recognize the recreo-touristic vocation of the area and to enrich its natural, cultural and historical characteristics. More specifically, the property in question is located in an agro-forestry sector whose emphasis is on forestry, and borders on a local urban sector which allows for residential, commercial, service, institutional and cottage industry. Lastly, the Council considers that the needs of the population are well served through priority being given to extraction activities in certain sectors designated within the territory according to criteria defined in the MRC’s land use plan. MAYOR’S REPORT A petition is available for signature at the Town Hall. This petition relates to the urgency of correcting certain wrongs within the health and social services system in order to ensure that those who are most vulnerable enjoy the quality of life and the respect which they deserve. The petition asks for a national public enquiry and, following the diagnostic, the creation of an organization mandated to evaluate the progress made.
OTHER : A letter from a citizen, along with comments from the municipal inspector attest to the high quality of performance of our winter roads contractor.
