HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JUNE 2ND, 2008 COUNCIL MEETING
The Mayor, 5 councillors and 7 citizens were present.
PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS
Notices of motion were given concerning the future adoption of bylaws 205 through 209. To further encourage environmental action in the municipality, the council voted to cover the costs of laboratory analyses and reports for the RAPPEL water monitoring program on Lac Long Pond, and a portion of the fees for the same study on Trousers Lake. During the summer season, from June 23rd to September 5th, the municipal offices will be open from 8:30am to noon, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. A resolution was adopted concerning the mandate of the Association for the Preservation of Religious Heritage.
MAYOR’S REPORT
The 2007 statistics from Sûreté du Québec indicate a decrease in road accidents and crimes against people and property on the territory of East Bolton. The number of fines for infractions, however, rose by 12%. The Mayor attended a presentation given by Xittel Communications Inc. who proposes to offer high speed wireless internet in the municipalities of Potton and East Bolton. The feasibility study will cost $2 500, and the implantation costs will be determined based on the number of towers required. Given that the Eastern Townships Regional Conference of Elected Officials (CRÉE) will submit its report on the high-speed internet file on June 18, we will await the results of that study before we proceed.
QUESTION PERIOD
Mr. Robert Brunet, who volunteered to follow up on the high-speed internet file for our municipality, provided an update on his progress so far with Axion Cable. One citizen described the accumulation of garbage at the garbage bins on Jolicoeur Road, and asked if door-to-door pick-up on that road would be possible. Her request will be transmitted to the contractor. She also asked if any bylaws exist regarding visual pollution, referring to the exterior maintenance of some buildings. One person asked for clarification regarding the standardized civic number project. With regards to road work being planned on Lake Nick Road near the beach, one citizen asked if the work could be held off until after the summer season to avoid closing the road during such a busy period.
| The next sitting of council will be at the Townhall in Bolton Centre on Monday July 7th, 2008 starting at 7PM. |
