HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JUNE 1ST, 2009 COUNCIL MEETING The Mayor, 6 councillors and 13 citizens were present Environment Agnès Renoux’s candidacy was accepted as member of the Environmental Advisory Committee. The other members will be named at the July council meeting. Infrastructure Recreation Principal Resolutions An $800 grant was awarded to the Long Pond Lake Association for RAPPEL’s water quality monitoring program for the summer of 2009. The speed limit on the asphalted portion of Lake Nick Road will be reduced to 30km/hr. The municipality has agreed to pay for half of the non-resident fees for citizens wishing to send their children to day camps in neighbouring municipalities. Mayor’s Report The Mayor received a list of people from our garbage contractor on May 26th who put out large garbage which is not accepted by our dump site. If citizens have any doubts about the material they are putting out for pick-up, they should call the Town Hall. High speed internet: a sophisticated feasibility study is an obligatory first step in the request for funding, and is currently being conducted via the CRÉE and the MRC. The decision will be made in September as to whether the MRC or the local municipalities will submit the request for funding. Question Period One citizen asked about the follow-up to letters sent out in February to people who did not uncover their tanks last year for the septic system measuring program; that citizen will be contacted with details shortly. Two citizens asked about the procedure for applying dust suppressant on the roads. One citizen wanted an update on the Tourist Information Relay; it was responded that there is a divergence between the people in charge of that program and the municipality. Several citizens from Bellevue Road complained about the garbage collection service; the contract will be renewed in 2010, and re-written to adapt to the new situation and requirements in that sector. The Mayor assured one citizen that the law will be respected when changing the zoning as requested by “Entre Cimes et Racines”.
