HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FEBRUARY 5TH 2007 COUNCIL MEETING The Mayor, 5 councillors and 2 citizens were present. COMMITTEES LAND USE PLANNING COMMITTEE A request for a zoning change for the purpose of opening a gravel pit in South Bolton was presented to the committee. A meeting was held on January 15th to study the dossier and submit the committee’s recommendation to council. The council will discuss the request at a work session scheduled for February 26th, 2007. A vote will be taken during the course of the next regular meeting of council. Depending on the outcome of the vote, formal proceedings, including public consultation and the possibility of a referendum, will begin. In June of 2006, an infraction to articles 12.5 and 12.6 of our zoning bylaw was committed by a citizen who proceeded with unauthorized work in the protected shoreline. The municipality levied the appropriate fines and demanded that a plan to restore the shoreline to its natural state be submitted. In August the citizen pled guilty and paid the fines but did not submit the required plan. The council passed a resolution to mandate our firm of lawyers, Monty Coulombe to represent the municipality in the dossier. Council adopted a resolution in support of the Friends of Trouser Lake Association’s request to RAPPEL to participate in a study of the state of health of the lake and its tributaries. The council also adopted its 2007 Environmental action plan in which this study is included. The council adopted a borrowing bylaw for work to be done on the Town Hall including roof repairs, renovation and rearranging of the municipal offices and of the library space and the installation of an elevator. As of the month of May, our citizens can count on twice the number of recycling pickups. The two monthly pickups will take place every second Tuesday. A detailed calendar will be sent by mail. MAYOR’S REPORT The creation of the new Long Pond Association is advancing well. The first general meeting will be held on May 20th 2007 at the Town Hall. QUESTION PERIOD A citizen enquired about developments in the cyan bacteria dossier and, more precisely, the possible impact on Trousers Lake. The mayor explained the steps taken and the plan put into place by the MRC to coordinate the efforts of the municipalities.
