HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DECEMBER 1ST, 2008 COUNCIL MEETING
The mayor, 6 councillors and 4 citizens were present
CULTURE
Mrs Ginette Breton reminded everyone that the schedule of Christmas activities planned by the Cultural committee can be found in the November Insight. She also mentioned that the fundraising brunch for the new Association for the preservation of our Architectural heritage took place on November 16th. The event brought in over $3 000 for the association.
NORTH-MISSISQUOI VALLEY ECO-DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The landscaping of 2 km of the pedestrian trail has been completed. The Municipality wishes to thank Mrs. Eunice Peasley, who gave us a right-of-way on her property, for her generous contribution. It goes without saying that all who use the trail will treat that property with great respect.
ENVIRONMENT
The Friends of Trousers Lake Association met with representatives of East Bolton and Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton on November 27th to explain their proposed activities for 2009.
PUBLIC SECURITY
The fire chief of the Municipality of Austin has carried out 151 fire prevention visits on the territory of East Bolton. He plans to carry out another 150 prevention visits in 2009.
PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS
The municipality has agreed to participate in an inter municipal board which would allow us access to an Eco-Centre being created in Eastman, behind the Town Hall, at 160 George-Bonallie. The opening of the Eco-Centre is scheduled for the spring of 2009.
The municipality’s annual contribution to Transport des Alentours, Inc. was adopted.
The tariffs are for round trips:
To the town of Magog: $2.75; within the MRC of Memphremagog: $3.25; to Sherbrooke: $9.00
- The service is door-to-door
- The phone number is: 819 843 3350
- You need to telephone 24 hours in advance, and specify that you pay your taxes to East Bolton.
A resolution has been sent to the Quebec Toponymy Commission to have the term “Boltonnois/e” approved as the French version of “East Boltoners”.
MAYOR’S REPORT
There will be an “Open House” at a new seniors’ residence in Mansonville on December 13th. Nine rooms are available to seniors from all over Estrie.
QUESTION PERIOD
One citizen wanted to know the availability of the numbers surrounding the creation of the budget. The main heading totals will be available at the special budget meeting, and the specific numbers will be available once the budget is adopted.
One citizen wanted to know the terms relating to the remuneration of the members of council, and was surprised that the amount paid to council is so low. The mayor responded that this is due to an historical phenomenon. It was also mentioned that the councillors have made no move to have their remuneration increased.
Finally, it was explained to one citizen that the Planning Advisory Committee’s meetings are not open to the public because the committee is consultative in nature and makes recommendations to council only.
