Our Council Meetings and Commitees

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DECEMBER 3RD, 2007 COUNCIL MEETING

The mayor, 4 councilors and 2 citizens were present

COMMITTEES

ADMINISTRATION
The committee met on November 23rd and on November 30th.
Preparation of the 2008 budget was the primary topic of these meetings.
Other topics were addressed, notably the temporary replacement of the secretary-receptionist, the director general’s authority on matters of use of the Town Hall for purposes of posting, displaying and publishing information as well as the placement of equipment, furniture and other objects in the Town Hall.

CULTURE AND RECREATION

Christmas activities have begun.  Please consult your latest municipal bulletin ‘Insight’ or call the Town Hall for the complete schedule of activities.

ENVIRONMENT

The assessment report of septic installations was presented on November 30 by Polytech. Among the 39 property owners on the list to be inspected, 79% have had their systems inspected and 88% of these appear not to be polluting. The evaluation reports and conclusions and recommendations will be forwarded to the property owners concerned.

PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS

The Council adopted a resolution to hire a secretary-receptionist for a period of three months.

The Council renewed the agreement with the Brome-Missisquoi intermunicipal solid waste elimination site for 2008.  This agreement allows citizens to dispose of dangerous domestic products in a safe manner.  The cost of disposal of the first 25 kg. per residence is covered by the municipality.  Along the same line, the municipality will sign an intermunicipale agreement with Potton to allow our citizens access to their Eco-centre in Mansonville. The municipality also adopted a resolution to signify its interest in becoming a partner in the proposed Eco-centre to be located in Eastman.

MAYOR’S REPORT

Following requests for financial aid, the municipality allocated 100$ to the BMP Hospital, Han-Droits and the Jeux du Québec-Estrie.

The Mayor reintroduced the topic of the preservation of religious historical buildings situated on the territory of our MRC.  These buildings are not eligible for  existing government grants.  As it appears that the preservation of these buildings is important in the eyes of the majority of our citizens, a meeting will be scheduled to bring the problem to light with the perspective that, if we wish to preserve these buildings, we must accept some financial responsibility.

The intermunicipal project for the eco-development of the Missisquoi River Valley received a grant in the amount of 110 000$ from the MRC’s Rural Pact for the first year of its three year program.

QUESTIONS

A citizen suggested that Polytech be hired to evaluate all septic systems located on shoreline properties and also made suggestions to improve the recycling pickup.

Another citizen commented that the painting of lines on our roads be done earlier in the summer season and that the rumble strips installed at the entrances to the village of Bolton Centre for purposes of traffic calming be refurbished.  Council also noted his request to be named to the Land Use Planning Committee.

The next sitting of council will be at the Townhall in Bolton Centre on Monday January 14th, 2008 (exceptionnally) starting at 7PM.
