August 7th, 2006 Council Meeting
Commitees
HERITAGE, CULTURE AND RECREATION
Within the framework of the eco-development project of the Missisquoi Valley, a meeting was held on July 10th with mayors, elected officials and directors of the municipalities of East Bolton and Potton as well as Suzanne Montel who has been hired by the municipalities as project manager.
ENVIRONMENT
The results of the study conducted by RAPPEL on the state of health of Lake Nick were presented at a public meeting on July 10th. Financed by the municipality, the study revealed that the lake is generally in good health. No invasive aquatic plant life was discovered. The lake does, however, show certain symptoms of premature aging due primarily to human intervention on the shoreline.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The committee met on August 2nd to study the specifications for the municipality’s winter roads contract, as well as the report provided by Teknika concerning the erosion of the bank on the new section of Lake Nick road built in 2003-2004. The committee’s recommendations were submitted to council.
URBANISM
The Land Use Planning committee met on July 26th to study several requests for minor derogations submitted by citizens.
The Council approved the nomination of Élyse Lacroix, new resident of Bellevue Road, as member of the Land Use Planning committee.
PRINCIPAL RESOLUTIONS
TERRIO PARK
A contract to repair and install the playground equipment has been awarded. We are continuing to work on the landscaping of the park.
BANKING SERVICES
The municipality will be transferring its banking services to the Caisse Desjardins de Memphrémagog. This institution offers easier access for the municipal staff as well as a greater variety of services to the municipality and its citizens, notably internet banking.
LAKE NICK ROAD
Measures have been adopted to reduce the risks related to the erosion of the bank on the new section of Lake Nick road.
MAYOR’S REPORT AND CORRESPONDANCE
DUST CONTROL
The Town Hall has received several complaints regarding dust control, primarily from residents of Mountain road. Two major causes at the root of this problem have been identified. The dust control product used this year, chosen for its quality as an environmentally friendly product, failed to deliver the dust control necessary on roads which are heavily trafficked. A second spreading is scheduled using a more effective product. The other cause of dust is the unauthorized use of the road by heavy trucks and the travelling of vehicles at high speed. The Quebec Provincial police have been advised of the problem.
| The next regular sitting of council will be at the Townhall in Bolton Centre on Tuesday September 5th, 2006 starting at 7PM. |
