Route 243
In response to the resolutions received from the local municipalities, Mr. Pierre Paradis’ office confirmed that the repaving of Route 243 would be done this summer by the Ministry of Transport
Heritage, culture and recreation committee report
Mrs. Ginette Breton informs us that a meeting will be held this Thursday April 6th with the 4 new committee members recruited. The agenda will include the adoption of a cultural policy, the planning of activities for the ‘journée de la culture’ in September and the possibility of working in concert with neighbouring municipalities.
Missisquoi River Valley project
East Bolton plans to work in concert with Potton, Eastman and St-Étienne-de-Bolton to hire a person whose mandate will be the management of an eco-tourism project for the Missisquoi River Valley.
The goal of the project is to plan and coordinate the development projects on public lands and the eco-tourism activities and to promote a common strategy to lend a visual identity to the Missisquoi River Valley as well as to seek financing for these activities at the various levels of government.
Hiking trail, Terrio road park and the Rural Pact
The building inspector is working with les ‘Sentiers de l’Estrie’ to plan the route of the trail which will cross our Terrio road park as foreseen in phase 1 of the Rural pact project. The landscaping and installation of the playground equipment will be done as soon as the temperature permits. An amount not exceeding 10 000$ has been engaged for the landscaping work and an amount not exceeding 3 000$ has been engaged for the work on the hiking trail.
Environment committee report
Monday, April 3rd, Mrs Stansje Plantenga, president of the Ruiter Valley Land Trust made a presentation to the environment committee explaining their mission. The committee will study the possibility of working in concert with the Land Trust on a project to help save the wood turtle. The municipality has a large colony of this endangered species on its territory. The Ruiter Valley Land Trust works primarily through education programs particularly at the primary school level.
Deposit of the municipality’s financial report
The financial report for the 2005 fiscal year, prepared by Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton was deposited to council on April 3rd. Mr. Harbec presented the document to the municipal council. Mr. Harbec confirms that the financial report is a true representation of the municipality’s financial situation which he deems to be healthy.
Bylaw respecting smoke detectors
A notice of motion was given concerning the adoption of a bylaw respecting smoke detectors. The bylaw describes the conditions related to the obligation to install smoke detectors and the responsibilities of property owners and renters as well as the sanctions in the event of an infraction to the bylaw.
Infrastructure committee report
The members of the infrastructure committee, along with the roads inspector are presently preparing a list of priorities for the repair and maintenance of our roads. For this purpose, the committee toured the municipality on March 31st to study the problem areas.
